AYODHYA RAM TEMPLE BHOOMI PUJAN: A lot of people from the Hindu community had always contended that the Muslim invaders had built a mosque over an existing temple in Ayodhya. December 1992 showcased the aftermaths of the demolition of the mosque in the form of communal riots that got approximately 2,000 people killed. On November 9, 2019, the Supreme Court finally put an end on the quite long and controversial dispute over the site in Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh. The court paved way for the construction of a temple at the site which was once was the standing ground for Babri Masjid. The court also asked for the establishment of a trust to be set up that shall oversee the construction of the temple. Also, they asked the Centre to allow a 5-acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board to build a new mosque in the holy city itself.
MODI TO LAY THE FIRST BRICK?
The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust who oversees the construction of the temples had met on Saturday for further discussion on construction work which has already been delayed by a few months due to Covid-19. They had issued an invitation to PM Modi along with several other prominent leaders of the Ram Janam Bhoomi movement to attend the Bhoomi Puja that has been decided to take place on August 5, 2020. PM Modi will be asked to lay the foundation of the temple, which is a silver brick which will be a symbolic gesture of ground-breaking. As per Kameshwar Chaupal, a Trust member, the entire belief that the Bhoomi puja should be done by Prime Minister Modi.

OPPOSITION TAKES A DIG?
A lot of other political leaders are showing concern regarding PM being involved in the Bhoomi puja. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar, thinks that the priority of the government at the present times should be the eradication of Covid-19 and not “construction of a temple”. Alongside Hussain Dalwai of the Congress lays down certain historic and constitutional reservations in a television interview. He refers to the Late PM Nehru rejecting the invitation for the Bhoomi puja of Somnath temple by stating that he (Nehru) was the leading face of a secular nation.
EVENT TO BE LOW KEY DUE TO COVID
Anil Mishra who is a member of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust, confirms that keeping the coronavirus pandemic in mind and not to flout the guidelines of social distancing, the event is going to be low key with a limited gathering. The number of guests invited to the event has been brought down from 250 to 150. The Trust has even clarified that there is as so no stringent plan of inviting all Chief Ministers from across the country.
According to Champat Rai, this ceremony is the most important event in the history of independent India and will be showcased live on Doordarshan and other channels.
