First batch of 5 Rafales arrive in India:
The induction of Rafale aircraft into the Indian air force will add immensely to India’s air power, making it one of the four countries to possess this next-generation fighter jets.
Rafale is a twin-engine medium multi-role combat aircraft, intended to perform air supremacy, interdiction, aerial reconnaissance, ground support, in-depth strike, and nuclear deterrence missions. The Rafael is referred to as an “omnirole” aircraft by Dassault.
India had inked a ₹ 59000 crore deal by an inter-government agreement, on September 23, 2016, to procure 36 rafale jets from French aerospace major Dassault Aviation.
As per the deal the first Rafael jet was handed over to the IAF ( Indian air force) in October last year during a visit to France by defense minister Shree Rajnath Singh.
The first batch of five French-made Rafale fighter jets has arrived on Wednesday at the Ambala airbase in Haryana after covering a journey of 7000-km from France.
The delivery of the remaining Rafale aircraft is expected to be completed by the next year 2022.
In November 2017, Congress party president Rahul Gandhi, alleged a ‘huge’ scam in the Rafael fighter jets deal blaming that the deal signed with France does not cater for technology transfer, the Rafael deal has a 50% offset clause, a large part of which is to be executed by a joint venture company of the Anil Ambani owned reliance defense.
But, the final legal judgement on the controversy was delivered by the supreme court on November 14, 2019, stating that no irregularities or corruption have been found, therefore, give permission to proceed the deal.
Congratulations to IAF for rafale TOUCH THE SKY WITH GLORY.
